spillway/river

Rode to the Spillway Saturday, took some pics,  nice ride, starting to get hot, river and fears receding.  45 miles Saturday, 35 Friday night,  quarter was busy, tourist in town for Memorial Day.  I never thought of Memorial Day as a Celebration, I thought we mourned soldiers lost in service to our country.  Hey , what do I know. .    May put in 15 this afternoon,  that 'll give me a
125 for the week, good start.    I have to get back to  the "Leave it to Beaver  marathon. So far I've seen 3 different neighbors named Mr Anderson.  Funny my mother never wore heals , pearls and a party dress to fix supper .  They had a house, a garage, a lawn, and ate in a room other than the kitchen, fancy smancy. .   later....

Bonne Carre' Spillway

The River's been high, thought I'd  ride out to the Spillway , see if they've started opening gates yet.  Nice ride, beautiful scenery, beautiful day, ride the river levee to the St Charles Parish police station then river road, wrangle through the refineries, up the levee again and your there.
22 miles ,  almost visited my friends in Laplace just up the road, made that trip before.
From the levee top you can see a great distance, the River is very wide there, the spillway is clear , filled with ponds, herons, egrets, snakes, fish, and various swamp creatures.
The river road crosses the spillway there but it's about to be run over with river, another 6 or 8 inches will  breach the blacktop.
The channels are gushing and the gates are letting river seep in at some areas.
When they start opening the gates I''ll return, it's something to see, the force of the Mississippi is felt from Canada to the Gulf, it is a mighty river .  On the way back Gertrude and Heathcliff the turkey buzzards were munching on a ripe armadillo, mother nature , what can I say.
Rode around here Sunday, quick 15 miles, staying out the city during Jazzfest. 57  mile weekend, not much but had commitments Sunday. Need some rain , my fig trees are crying.

Starting to fill up .
